Yagi Sake Brewery was established in 1877 at the base of Mount Kasuga’s ancestral forest. Historically it is thought that the water sourced from beneath this mountain is blessed by its proximity to nature and is protected by the gods of Kasuga Taisha Shrine that inhabit the mountain. Today the 5th generation of the Yagi family draws deep well water from the brewery to continue making sake using the lessons learned from the rich sake brewing traditions of Nara Prefecture. In December 2022 the brewery formally changed its name to Nara Kasugayama Sake Brewery.
