Founded in 1879 in Katagami, Akita, northwest of Japan. Kodama Sake Brewery is known for its sake brands, Taiheizan 太平山, named after an auspicious mountain in Akita and Tenko 天巧, the completely hand-made artisan Junmai Daiginjo (pure rice super premium) sake series.
The brewery’s history goes back into the Meiji period as a producer of soy sauce and miso known under the brand name Yamakiu 犯凡哆敦 which is familiar to the local people of Akita. Kodama Jozo is one of the very few Japanese breweries remaining today who are committed to producing Japanese traditional “fermented” seasonings, soy sauce, miso, and sake which are so essential to Japanese food culture. Currently the fifth generation of the family, Shinichiro Kodama is Kuramoto/President preserving a history of over 140 years of fermentation practice and aiming to bring high quality sake and joy to your table.
