This is a barley shochu made by Yagi Brewery in Nara. The bottle is labelled from the Hanafuda playing cards series representing October the time when the Japanese maple leaf changes colour in the Autumn. The words “Momoji ni Shika” translates to a deer in autumn leaves and implies a good pairing. This shochu is made from barley fermented with white koji and a single distillation. It has an elegant, rich aroma hinting at the umami depths contained within. Drink straight, over ice or with water. Considerable flexibility and use for cocktails.
