This citrus is said to have been found in a garden in Miyazaki prefecture sometime in the 1820s. Thus bearing the ancient name of the prefecture “Hyuga” and “Natsu” meaning summer however, it is actually harvested during Spring and early summer. Interestingly, it is recommended to eat the white pith which provides a nice mild-sweetness while the yellow flesh is very sour creating a unique balance of flavours.
