Rice Fields Series
Abe Sake Brewery produces its Rice Field Series annually to support and protect the scenery, rice fields and farming community in the Kashiwazaki area, Niigata Prefecture where the brewery is located. Revitalising and drawing interest to their home region is a key motivator for Abe and they want sake fans to enjoy the taste of each rice individual rice field area, represented photographically on the bottle labels. In this limited edition series one tank of sake is made with rice from a single area’s fields. One bottle represents one group of rice paddies with a sake fermentation method which is the same for every tank produced.
Akada is a farm in the Akada district of Kariwa village which is part of the “Sato” area relatively close to human habitation, and not far from the brewery. The characteristic of recent vintages of rice has been a clean taste as rice has not broken down so readily during fermentation due to climate conditions and high average annual temperatures. A sake with solid mouthfeel, mellow, developing umami and soft fruity flavours with a refreshing crisp acid.
