Rice Fields Series

Abe Sake Brewery produces its Rice Field Series annually to support and protect the scenery, rice fields and farming community in the Kashiwazaki area, Niigata Prefecture where the brewery is located. Revitalising and drawing interest to their home region is a key motivator for Abe and they want sake fans to enjoy the taste of each rice individual rice field area, represented photographically on the bottle labels. In this limited edition series one tank of sake is made with rice from a single area’s fields. One bottle represents one group of rice paddies with a sake fermentation method which is the same for every tank produced.

Agewa Shinden rice field is in a coastal area with mountains to the rear. This unique area is prone to salt damage arising from its proximity to the sea but farmer Mr. Uesugi who is contracted to farm this land has developed strategies to successfully grow his crop with these environmental factors. Because the rice is grown near the sea the brewery believes this sake will go well alongside marine products such as fish, shellfish, and sushi. Sake fans enjoy the clean aroma like a sea breeze, acidity, and hint of pleasant bitterness on the finish.
