Katsuyama “Origin” Gen Junmai Daiginjo Genroku Style

A saké that is made to fit fine dining of the highest quality, Katsuyama Gen is a rare and refined Junmai Daiginjo that was once reserved solely for the Lords of the land. Perfected over 12 generations of brewing masters, this Saké has an interesting versatility and can be enjoyed as a dessert wine or after-dinner drink, but also goes well with sauteed foie gras or other meat dishes with lightly sweet sauces. Alternatively, it also complements blue cheeses like Roquefort and Gorgonzola or pasta topped with blue cheese sauces and is best enjoyed either chilled or on ice. While no longer exclusive to Japanese aristocracy, Katsuyama Gen, which means “original” and “foundation”, retains it rarity and is a well-sought-after liquor that reflects the origin of its type in the Genroku era and the founding of Katsuyama in that era.
