An umeshu that is made from premium ume from Wakayama prefecture called Beni Nankoubai and junmai sake instead of the normal shochu base. The umeshu has a delicate perfume of marzipan with an apricot edge. The liqueur hits the palate with a distinctive sweet / sour profile but in this umeshu the sweetness is dialled back so the drier, tart elements provide a substance and richness which is deeply satisfying. Drink chilled or poured over ice for streamlined intensity. A very elegant bottle and Kozaemon washi paper label makes this Umeshu an excellent gift or to be served on a special occasion but equally happy tucked into the liquor cabinet to be sampled regularly alongside food or to stimulate the palate.
